They spotted the weekly market from up there, with people in colourful clothes buying and selling all kinds of things. There wag plenty to buy and people had money to buy too. There were no poor people to be seen anywhere. The king watched with a smile on his face.

I want tocheck this first-hand by talking to them. Tomorrow, summon people from all walks of life to the court, and I will ask them myself how doing. ''Chandan was used to the king's strange requests, and went off to carry out this order.
The next day, the king arrived in court humming a happy •tune to himself. Seeing all the people gathered there waiting for him, he was even more pleased. He cleared his throat at and said in a loud voice, "I have called you here to ask you a very important question. As your king, I need to know if all of you are contented. Do you have enough for your needs ? Do you know anyone who is not happy about anything ?"
The citizens looked at each other, thought for a while and slowly one by one they came forward to answer. One after the other they all said how happy they were-their kitchens had enough food, their trades and businesses were doing well, the king had made them feel safe. The farmers had grown good crops and the rivers and ponqs were full of fish. What more could they ask for ?
The king became more and more pleased as he heard this. Only Chandan, his minister, watched and heard everything with a frown on his face. Why ? What was wrong ? Different systems of irrigation like over the surface or under the surface to soil by using different methods like furrow, channel—basin or ring, flooding, sprinkler, drip irrigation, etc. are in the use.
Furrow and channel systems are used where the land is firry level and
amount of water is plenty. These are in common use.
Flooding is in general use for most of the crops where water is not a problem. Water is allowed to flow over the field -to a certain depth of its absorption, measured in terms of acre-inch. On slopylands, the nutrients may collect at lower places so upper places may håve less fertility. There can be soil erosion. This system is suitable for flat lands with enough but assured water supply. Ring or basin method is usually employed for irrigating fruit and other trees. individual tree is given water at a time. There is no' loss of soil and nutrients but the method is time consuming and laborious. Amount of water given to a plant is more than its requirement as some of it is likely to be lost through evaporation and seepage.
Sprinkler method requires less water as compared to the above methods and needs no prepåration of the soil before irrigation. There is no soil erosion and no loss of nutrients from the soil.
Drip irrigation method is •also known as trickle irrigation system since every drop of water is made to trickle down into the soil near the root zone of the plant which is utilized by the

Answer-
Causes
1.lack of work opportunity
2.family break down
Remedies
1.person must be given a chance to have a suitable occupation.
2.handicapped must be helped to become an an asset to society.
The problem of begging in India is a large one, and is a symptom of a number of complex evils. In one State in India it is estimated that there are over 2000 beggars in each district.
The most common cause of begging is the lack of work opportunity in villages so that people are driven to crowd into large towns to look for work. They seek employment as road workers, porters, casual helpers, in markets and as domestic servants. Those who fail to make&i living in these ways, tend to resort to begging to make an income.
Other reasons for resorting to begging are : family breakdown leading to truancy by the children, the death or desertion of a husband, the use of disfigured children to gain some income for'their guardians and the result of disabling diseases which prevent a persolå from making a decent living.
All these causes produce a problem which is magnified in two ways. First, by the general toleration of persistent and open begging in public places, and secondly, by the very bad psychological effects on their way of life on the beggars themselves. Thus they live in s.tate of despair and gradually lose the normal values of self-respect and dignity, so that eventually begging becomes for them an acceptable way of life.
Somehow, a society must be able to make the best use of all its resources, both material and human. All persons who are able to do work must be given a chance to have a suitable occupation. and those who are handicapped must be helped to become an, asset to society. Only by curing many social and economic ills can the evil of begging, a symptom of these ills,.be overcome.

She pulled an apple from her woollen jacket and threw it over the fence.
I grabbed the fruit and, as I started to run away, I heard her say faintly, "I'll see you tomorrow."
I returned to the same spot•by the fence at the same time every day. She wag always there with something for me to eat-a hunk of bread Or, better yet, an apple.
We didn't dare speak or linger. To be caught would mean death for us both.
I didn't know anything about her, just a kind farm girl, except that she understood Polish. What was her name ? Why wasshe risking her life for me?
Hope was in such short supply, and this girl on the other side of the fence gave me some, as nourishing in its way as the bread and apples.
Nearly seven mönths•later, my brothers and I were crammed into a coal car and shipped to Theresienstadt. camp in Czechoslo+akia.
"Don't return," I told the girl that day. 'We' re leaving." I turned toward the barracks and didn't look back, didn't even say good-by to the little girl whose name I'd never learned, the girl with the apples.
We were in Theresienstadt for three months. The war was winding down and Allied forces were closing in, yet my fate seemed sealed.
On May 10, 1945, I was scheduled to die in the gas chamber at 10:00 A.M.
In the quiet of dawn, I tried to prepare myself. So many times death seemed ready to claim me, but somehow I'd survived. Now, it was over.
I thought of my parents. At least, I thought, ye will be reunited.
But at 8 A.M. there was a commotion. I heard shouts, and saw people running every way though camp. I caught up with my. brothers.
