Speech Writing

  1.  B) Your college has organized an elocution competition. One of the topics  there in is 'My Idea of India as a Developed Country'. Prepare a speech on it in about 100 words.

B) Speech Writing:

Honourable Chief guest, dignitaries on the dais, teachers and all my friends present over here. take this great opportunity to express my ideas  of India as a developed country,
You know that one of the great visionaries, Dr.AbduIKalam, who   just left us forever, has prophesised in his 'Vision 2020' that India will be a  developed country by 2020. And being an Indian I also expect the same.
When I dream to be a citizen of a developed nation, I always have a   question in my mind, What would it be like?
You see, even after the six decades of independence, there are many  problems still prevailing in the society. They are the major berries in the  development of the country. Unless and until, we overcome the barriers,  ours can't be a developed nation.
To me, in developed India there would be no hunger, no child would die of malnutrition, there will be no poverty. It's quite unfortunate that even today a large section ofthe society is far away from education. So, I expect that this underprivileged class would get a quality education. Every child will go to school.
We know, in developing India, there is a broad dividing line between  rural and urban development. But in developed India, there would have ample employment opportunities in villages also. Every village will have the world class healthcare facilities such as hospitals, pure drinking water, proper sewerage and sanitation system etc. This is one ofthe important indicators of a developed country. In short, the village will be a true projection of  Gandiji's idea.
So, friends if you want to live in such a developed nation, you have a great responsibility to eradicate all the problems which are hurdles in the way of India's development.

Thank you.

Note-Making

  • B) Note-Making. (4 Marks)

Read the following extract and complete the table given below:

Children are perpetually asking questions. As adults, we are awkward  with questions. We link the act ofasking questions to ignorance. It indicates that we do not know; hence we may look stupid when asking questions.
Children have no shame, whereas adults sufferfrom layers and layers ofshame.
Because children have no shame, they are more capable offailing at something and moving on from it. Our sense ofshame makes us inhibited. So we do not try new things at work..
Children quickly make friends with strangers. Put two small kids alongside a few toys and they will start playing before they care to know about each other's antecedents. As adults, we seek the false comfort to known relationships before we agree to play with each other.
Children freely express their emotions; adults learn to suppress their emotional side. We come to the workplace and are frequently counselled. "Do not get emotional."
Children play. They find play in everything. Adults shun play and consider it the oppoiste of " serious work." To a child, every act is an act of play.

Q.I. (A) Read the following extract and answer the questions given below : (11) My own faith in Chaitanya started giving me abundant strength. I no longer wanted to hide myself from the glaring eyes of the world. I took him around with me. He went with us everywhere like any normal child. We were not sorry oruncomfortable carrying

  him around.
If I required help for him in public places, I was not embarrassed to seek it from  people around. I did not mind telling them that he was a special child. I was no more scared of people's curious looks and awkward questions. I could talk about Chaitanya's problem calmly. As my mind opened up further, I could discem a new hope springing in my heart. I felt happy I was a Special Mother.
The special school did Chaitanya a lot of good. He was now a much more confident person, adored by his teachers, his friends and his school staff. His speech improved and expression became clearer. His social manners became laudable.

Q. 5. (A) Read the following extract and rewrite it from the point of view of Sid, the narrator' friend [8 You may begin with : Herman made his way to . (4
Eventually I made my way to England where I was sponsored by a Jewish charity,

put up in a hostél with other boys who had survived the Holocaust and trained in electronics. Then I came to America, where my brother Sam had already moved. I served  in the U. S. Army during the Korean war, and returned to New York city after two years.

By August 1957 1'd opened my own electronics repair shop. I was starting to settle in.
One day, my friend Sid who I knew from England called me. "I've got a date. Shö got   a Polish friend. Let's double date."
A blind date? Nah, that wasn't for me.
But Sid kept pestering me, and a few days later we headed up to the Bronx to pick up  his date and her friend Roma.
I had to admit, for a blind date this wasn't so bad. Roma was a nurse at a Bronx hospital. She was kind and smart. Beautiful, too, with swirling brown curls and green  almond-shaped eyes that sparkled with life.
The four of us drove out to Coney Island. Roma was easy to talk to, easy to be with.  Turned out she was wary ofblind dates too! We were bothjust doing our friends a favor.
