It is April and another Vishu came and is gone. It is the new Year festival of Kerala, and closely related to the beginning of agricultural activities. But even it therains played truant, therewas one bird -vishupakshi which never failed to wake up farmers with its vitthumkaikkottum (seedand spade) song. Every year starting in the first week of March, the bird was heard singing its never - ending vitthumkaikkottum. It was a remainder to thefarmers and background music to the beginning of farming activities. I have never heard any other bird, except the cuckoo, that sing sobeautifully as vishupakshi. And thissond would be heard only in m@rch and April.
This summer, the bird might have watched that even if it urges the people to take to the seed and shovel nobody has seeds to take and it might also have observed that in the district which was once called the granary of Kerala, there is no place for sowing the seeds and it might have decided not to sing or even
visit us (I think it is a migratory bird. It sings even at midnight. It perchaseonly on the top of very big trees and their felling may be the reasons why the bird did not turn up). Not only are the song and sound of vishupakshi missing
today; there are many other birds which won't be seen and heard again
We were an agrarian people. And my main hobby in my early teens was to wander through paddy field to see the different kinds of birds and how they nest. On the outskirts of the paddy fields, there had been any coconut trees and black palm trees. Beautifully crafted nests of the weaver - birds thookkanaam kuruvi&al would be seen dangling from the ends of palm leaves. Hundreds of these little birds would land on the paddy to squeee the milk from the tender rice.

I am in no way trying to deny the many advantages of T. V., or minimise its manifold contributions to our world. On thc other hand, I consider T.V. as one of the greatest scientific achievements of our times, bringing people closer than ever before.
Television's use of the modem satellite technology brings even the remotest regions of the world to us in seconds, reducing the world a small (global) village. As we know, television also provides us with a fuller and more impressive coverage of current events than any other media.
The T.V. does serve, in adition, as a medium of education as well as entertainment. Besides helping us to learn subjects taught in schools, college in geater depth, it enables us to see and appreciate from close quarters the won- ders of God's creation in any part ofthe world.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior Movie Review: This story of a braveheart makes for a thrilling watch
STORY: The film traces the life of the fierce Maratha warrior, Tanhaji Malusare, who was one of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s closest aides and a military leader. It focuses on the famous Battle of Sinhagad (February 4, 1670), which saw Tanhaji take on Udaybhan, a Rajput who fought for Aurangzeb against the Marathas.
REVIEW: Under the Treaty of Purandar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Sharad Kelkar) surrendered 23 forts to Aurangzeb (Luke Kenny), including the Kondhana (now called Sinhagad), which was of strategic importance. Rajmata Jijabai (Padmavati Rao) swore that she would walk bare feet till the fort is recaptured by the Marathas. Four years later, Aurangzeb sends Udaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) with a huge army and a massive canon called 'naagin', to ensure that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj cannot reclaim the fort. While Shivaji Maharaj plans a campaign, he doesn't want to send his trusted lieutenant and dear friend, Subedar Tanhaji Malusare on the battlefield, as the latter's son is about to get married. When Tanhaji gets to know of the 'mohim' (campaign), he implores Shivaji Maharaj to give him an opportunity to win Kondhana. His wife, Savitribai (Kajol) proves to be his silent strength. Despite the evil intentions of some like Pisal (Ajinkya Deo), Tanhaji manages to make inroads into the fort that is considered impregnable. A fierce battle ensues where Tanhaji fights the deadly Udaybhan. While the story is known, several creative liberties have been taken to capture the attention of the audience.
Ajay Devgn is in top form playing the braveheart Maratha warrior, Tanhaji, with all his might. He powers through with subtlety and restraint while keeping the patriotic passion high at all times. Kajol as Tanhaji’s strong and supportive wife, Savitribai, makes her limited screen time count with a convincing performance. Saif as Udaybhan overpowers; he brings out the brutality and devilish streak of his character with finesse and ferocity. In some moments of his evil madness, he actually adds a tinge of humour to the scene, while breaking into a sinister laugh himself. This is one of Saif’s most outstanding performances. Another high point of the film is the casting of the key characters. Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj looks the part and brings the required gravitas to the part of the warrior-king.
Director Om Raut shows a flair for storytelling in his debut Hindi movie. He maintains a firm grip on the film and balances the emotions and drama with tact. The 'ghorpad' (monitor lizard) angle, which is disputed by historians, has been given a twist in the movie. There is generous use of CGI, which is merged seamlessly in the narrative. It helps mount the film on a scale that it needed to create a solid impact. The action — and there is obviously a lot of sword fighting, slicing, dicing — is designed (by action director Ramazan Bulut) and shot skillfully and aesthetically and is a visual treat. While the film didn't really need to be made in 3D format, some scenes do stand out.

Characters from The Rising of the Moon
The Rising of the Moon
The play The Rising of the Moon by Lady Gregory is a short one that follows a couple of men related to law enforcement in some way. It is the story of the attempted capture of an escaped prisoner and a humorous discussion of what guides the path of our lives. Here is a breakdown of the characters.
The sergeant:
The sergeant is the leader of the company of police officers, and he is in charge of the effort to recapture the prisoners. During the play, we learn of his past and life and that he is something of an Irish patriot, but the path of his life led him to follow safety and security, so he agreed to be a patrolmen with the British and has now found himself the sergeant of this company of police officers. He becomes somewhat fond of the prisoner.
Sergeant
Sergeant, an officer in the Royal Irish Constabulary, a force recruited from native Irishmen by the British authorities. The Sergeant reveals the ambiguities and divided loyalties of his professional role. He is a slow, cautious, and somewhat unimaginative character. Although he is not particularly enlightened, he is also not outside the range of patriotic sentiment’s appeal. His discovery that this is the case is as much of a surprise to him as it is to the audience.
The ragged man:
The ragged man, as he is introduced, has several different identities. He acts as a bard and ballad singer, entertaining the sergeant as they sit and talk, watching for the escapee. He looks like a simple, raggedly dressed man, but says he would recognize the fugitive from a mile away and offers to help look for him. The reality is that he is in fact the escaped prisoner, and he is waiting for the ship that carries his helpers so he can escape. While they sit, he probes the sergeant's psyche, and the two surprisingly bond.
The two officers:
The two officers, who are assistants to the sergeant, have few words to say and only act to offer exposition for the rest of the story. They partner with the sergeant in handing out flyers and hope to catch the man.
The rescuers:
The final group are never seen, but they respond to the fugitive's signal and have come to rescue him. They are driving a ship that passes nearby the quay.

Hiware Bazaar (Ahmednagar district) Jhamrun Mahali in Washim district is set to become a model village in Maharashtra's drought-prone, Pov erty-stricken Vidarbha region.
